Nicole is leaving TEKSystems and Nintendo, to join the Nrwl team, and has experience in both user experience and Javascript development. Nicole is also an active community leader, as co-organizer of Angular Seattle, and she’s volunteered as a mentor and lead several ngGirls workshops.
Learn more about Nicole’s career path
She started her career in the visual arts at university, and moved into graphic design and UX, before coding. She said she found she had a passion for helping people accomplish tasks without frustration and loves to design user interfaces that are simple and intuitive. This translated into an interest in building developer tooling: “A puzzle I enjoy solving time and time again,” said Nicole.
The foundation of her programming career took place for six years working at the University of California San Diego, where she was part of a team of twelve, building and maintaining applications for the Division of Biological Sciences. “One of my first programming projects there was updating static directories and course lists to be data-driven, and building database structures to support them,” said Nicole. “That position was a perfect place for me to incubate my skill set, I was fortunate to have colleagues who were talented programmers and patient mentors.” “I learned a ton about aspects of programming that I otherwise wouldn’t be exposed to. It also gave me ownership of something that I am excited about,” she explained.
Since then, Nicole has specialized a lot more in Angular and Node.js, and now she says, “I’m looking forward to being part of a company that has such a wealth of Angular expertise! I’m looking forward to seeing how much I can learn while working closely with developers with lots of overlapping skills.” “I’m interested in seeing the challenges that Nrwl helps developers solve — some of the most complex issues facing Angular developers today. I’m also looking forward to seeing how projects like Nx and Nrwl Connect evolve.”
First impressions count
Nicole’s decision to join Nrwl started with the interview process, “One thing that stuck out was how much I learned … This gave me a fantastic impression of the company right from the start. The remote work environment will be unlike any of my previous jobs,” she said.
When it comes to the company culture, she said, “I love that both Co-Founders Jeff and Victor are active respected members of the Angular community! I love that employees are encouraged to be active by writing blog posts and speaking at events. This is something I’m particularly interested in cultivating for myself at this point in my career.”
The future looks bright
As for what’s next for Nicole, she’s always staying on top of the latest developer ecosystem evolutions, “Just a few years ago it felt like there was so much technology churn in front-end development that it was impossible to keep up! Now I see the developer community focusing more on enhancing existing tools, improving performance, and solidifying best practices.” — And that’s something all of us at Nrwl are excited about.
Nicole will be working with our clients, alongside their enterprise development teams to help them with their most ambitious projects, building amazing products and software. She’ll also be working on Nrwl’s open-source products, Angular Console, Nx, and the new Nrwl Connect. You can follow Nicole on Twitter, and Github.
